Cherry Stampka: I own a Yamaha and am completely satisified with its capabilities and usability in addition to Yamaha's customer support. The only other brand I would consider would be Denon for its quality.Remember the receiver is only half the picture. Quality speakers make up the other half. You can buy the best most expensive receiver but don't skimp on the speakers. Go with as much as your budget will allow....Show more
Ervin Overbee: I hope the Bose posters were kidding because Bose sound is crap, especially compared to what you have already. That is a large amount to spend on the receiver. At the minimum, look into the Harman Kardon AVR635, which has a room eq function that is excellent. Very musical and warm sound. You should also look at the Denon 2807 and 4306, which also include sophisticated equalization functions which will adjust the sound to fit your room acoustics. At that budget you can also look into separates. Check out Outlaw Audio and the Emotiv! a brands for separate pre-amp + amp combinations that will be a huge step up in quality (and price)...Show more
Eldridge Rieves: Go with the Yamaha. The Sony "ES" line is actually well respected, but Sony makes a lot of space-filling receivers and this one looks like a low-end unit.Yamaha tends to be rock-solid and even the low end receivers tend to be decent....Show more
Lenard Ginyard: Hi mate, again! The Yamaha is my first choice. I used to own a Yamaha Pre-Amplifier which i was very satisfied with. For some reason Sony Receivers are not popular with home theater enthusiasts.Yamaha, i am told, has a better sound for music. If your son is only going to listen to music ,a Stereo Integrated Amplifier will sound much better than a Receiver.Regards,Rob....Show more
