What kind of cell phones do Paramedics carry? Do you absolutely need a pda cell phone in the field?

Dan Seen: No.PDA is not necessary, if they say otherwise then they're lying. I graduated nursing without it. It was recommended but then for me, it cost more and you will have to pay for the subscription (update drug ref) then you have to worry if it gets lost or stolen. I used a small drug book which is way cheaper and convenient since I can hi-lite it. and BTW, am an A student.

Moises Rupinski: I personally carry a PDA, however it has nothing to do with being a paramedic. PDAs can be useful as quick reference guides for different emergency situations, however it is not absolutely necessary. Some jurisdictions have reporting systems that use PDAs to compile information and eases report writing. As far as cell phones go, they can be useful if radio communication is poor, however one must be cognizant of the patient during cell phone use. One of the biggest complaints I have heard from patients is that the provider's cell phone rings ! during an incident....Show more
