Florencia Manolakis: Maniac is correct. The Sony DAV system is a DISK PLAYER.It does a great job with DVD's but to get the price down - it did not include the ability to hook other things up to it for 5.1 sound.Sorry....Show more
Clifford Riggleman: Pretty much daily, all of us here on Yahoo Answers has to inform someone that this is why you should never buy an HTiB theater system. Some of them at least have the one necessary optical input but maybe yours doesn't. Look it over well and check your manual but if you confirm it doesn't have an input then the only thing it can be used for is playing disc.Another sad part about HTiB's like this is that none of it is useful. You can't just go out and buy a proper receiver in most cases because frequently the included speakers with the HTiB are 3 ohms. So don't even bother posting a follow up question asking if you can use the speakers with a new receiver, you can't and you wouldn't want to anyway since speakers that c! ome with these HTiB systems are cheaper and lower quality than the lowest end of "real" speakers. The only correct way to put together a home theater is to buy the components one at a time and almost always it's best to buy them from different manufacturers. No single manufacturer makes both the better electronics and the better speakers. The more you break things down the better, the best systems don't even use receivers, they break that down too into separate preamp/processor and external amplifiers. The HTiB is the exact opposite of the best approach, it combines everything together and that's the worst thing you can do.Sorry about the bad news. Double check and make sure you have not just missed the optical input. If yo find it, connect the optical cable from your TV optical output to the Sony HTiB optical input. That way anything connected to the TV can be played on your 5.1 system.mk...Show more
