Regarding taxes, Can I deduct car expenses and meals while commuting away from my home as a W2 employee?

Maynard Reevers: No.Your job moved permanently to the new location. You do not have contract stating that this is a tempoary reassignment that will absolutely, positively end in less than 1 year. Your tax home moved and when you didn't, this became your choice. Any expenses you incur are personal and not deductible.Even if I misread your post and you took the job knowing it was in LA, it's still considered a choice, commuting and not deductible. Airline pilots have this issue all the time.PPS, I'm still confused, but the answer doesn't changed. Working in one city and going home on the weekends isn't an expense you can deduct....Show more
