Cordia Fivecoat: You should pursue the course that you are more passionate about.Visual Arts if you mean painting sculpture etc... is the more difficult path to follow as the kind of jobs you could expect to find are few and far between.Graphic design will offer more opportunities as far as employment is concerned but nothing is guaranteed.I have been a artist my entire life and had good enough luck to get into decent galleries and have powerful collectors acquire my work. But as I got older I also decided to get a job, in graphics, that turned into a career in web development. By removing the pressure to sell from my work as an artist my creativity really opened up and the work became even better. I am assuming you are young and at the beginning of your career so if you want free advise, which is what answers is all about. You should do both, its good to be diverse. With a strong design foundation that will probably need to have some kind of technology element, ie. CAD, Il! lustrator, Flash etc..., you can get a good job to pay for your basic needs but still be able to follow your creative side and with any luck be successful with that too. The most important thing is to not get discouraged anything worth having is worth working towards.Good luck and best wishesYes you can teach art fine art and design, it may be something worth looking into and some education fields pay quite well....Show more
Denna Prudente: After applying to roughly 50 well matched jobs in IT within the last 5 months, I had three phone screens and three in person interviews. Half of which I rejected due to distance, pay, or fit, the other half it was I who was rejected...due to lack of experience. With over 13 years experience as a Level 2/3 Analyst with a F500 company, a BS degree and four military occupations over a span of 13 years, I still find that if you lack specific experience, you won't get the job. Mostly I work with recruiters who become your best friend an! d will represent you well. Consider: Reason for leaving, most ! pay below nat'l avg, specific experience and can you sustain for six mos. or more. How determined are you? I relocated 5 months ago from MN and it's been a huge struggle since. These companies are slow! Some have been posting for the same job for well over three months. Some post for only a few days and fill the spot before you even have a chance....Show more
