Adan Alipio: Thanks Tom, I totally agree. And on a side note: I "enjoy" how someone gave you a thumbs down for your advice, yet didn't offer any of their own.
Filiberto Amauty: Like your other 2 posters stated there isn't an easy or hard fast way to do it. I have several branches of my family where they were long term residence of an area intermarrying with other long term residents. Based on the way you were keeping records in the past until you starting getting all the intermarrying, my suggestion would be set a "rule" for yourself about where you are going to put these people (ie spouse always goes under their spouses file or child always goes under their parents file etc) then on the other files where that person would go either create a text document for them that states where to locate their folder or create a shortcut to the folder (I personally would recommend the latter)...Show more
Leif Serabia: WOW! You are way more organized than I am. I fil! e under my and DH's 4 grandparent surnames with file-names that indicate the name or family the document concerns. Fortunately I have not had any crossovers. If I find a particularly interesting family, I might have a sub-folder for them. I feel so disorganized. Lisa Louise Cook on Genealogy Gems has covered this topic several times on her podcasts, You might want to listen to some of the suggestions she and her guests have had....Show more
Donella Vasta: Well, there is no easy way. There just isn't. Sometimes the family tree looks more like a grape vine. Not only do you have cousins marrying, but you'll often find entire families moving around together and they are intermarrying. And then you have families who spell the last name one way but part of the family spells it another, when in fact it's the exact same family. And it just gets so complicated. Try your best to keep your online records in family groups based on last name. But sometimes you just have to ! write things out, even do a complicated tree/graph, to fully u! nderstand what was going on. No one ever said it was going to be easy. lol...Show more
Thomas Riner: Marci -- Thanks for the tip! I had no idea this resource existed. I'm going to definitely check it out! Thanks again!
